About Playa Santiago

The original name of the city is San Sebastian de La Gomera, and it is the capital of the island of La Gomera, on the Canary Islands, among the Spanish autonomous regions.

While the city's economy was based on agriculture in the past, tourism activities are now locomotives of the economy.

Public transportation within the city is provided with buses. The island is connected to the mainland via La Gomera Airport. There are also regular ferry services to the islands of Tenerife, La Palma and Hiero from the port of the city. There are many beautiful beaches around this harbor.

Built in the 15th century, the Conde Tower (Torre de Conde) and the Colon House, home of Christopher Columbus before his journey to explore the American continent, is at the forefront of the city's historic heritage. The Church of La Asuncion and the San Sabastian Monastery Church are on the list of sights to be seen as architectural symbols of the city.

Nature lovers can visit the Majona Nature Park, Cabrito Gardens and Los Roques Rocks. Mountain biking, hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating and sailing are some of the sporting activities that can be done in the city.

As seafood is both abundant and always fresh, it is at the top of the list of foods to be consumed in San Sebastian de La Gomera. Also remember to add palm tree honey to your shopping list in the city. It is a different flavor that can be used as a sauce, especially in desserts. If you are consuming alcohol, you should definitely try the local white wine Garajonay. Fruit cocktails prepared with or without alcohol are also very assertive.
